Training for a career in TESOL: 

TESOL stands for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and encompasses what used to be called TEFL Teaching English as a Foreign Language and TESL Teaching English as a Second Language.

TESOL provides many thousands of women and men with a career that combines academic study, teaching and teacher management and the opportunity to develop an understanding of other cultures worldwide.  

English Language is one of the most widely used languages for non-native 

English speakers. It is regarded as one of the most common languages of 

international commerce, science, law and social communication. The Cert 

TESOL course provides a stimulating start to what has become a flourishing and constantly developing profession. 

 

Entry requirements: 

Open to all native and non-native English speakers who have good written and spoken English. 

Good knowledge of English Grammar. 

Good communication skills. 

You will have an assessment upon application. 

 

Course format: 

Long distance course, self-study. 

Learning at Educe Academy International centre. 

 

Course content: 

Cert-TESOL Module 1 

  • The trainee will be taught language methodology and grammar. 
  • An understanding of the basic relationship between linguistic form (phonetic, phonological and lexical) approaches, function and meaning in standard English and the principal concepts from fluency and accuracy through to humanistic approach and terminology used to describe the structure and use of English. To teach the above in terms of language skills. 
  • Language awareness: English grammar, how to approach, use and teach it. 

 

Cert-TESOL Module 2 

  • Teaching strategies: Teaching the Four Language Skills, speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.
  • Practical language activities: A collection of practical teaching aids,technology and teaching activities. 
  • Self-evaluation: A practical approach to assessing your teaching skills and guidance for working as a professional. 
  • Identifying students' learning styles and understanding their different abilities. 
  • Dealing with cultural issues and the mother tongue. 

 

Cert-TESOL module 3 

  • Classroom management. 
  • Lesson planning: A template for the preparation of your lessons. 
  • Testing in the classroom: A practical approach to assessing your students. 
  • Observation assessment of the trainee. 
  • Guidance for learning to teach. 

Learning objectives: 

Upon completion of the course, successful trainees will 

  1. Be equipped with the basic skills and knowledge to take up a first post as an ESOL teacher. 
  2. Have good knowledge of Linguistics and English Language. 
  3. Develop a strong awareness of the learning needs of individuals or groups of learners. 
  4. Have the ability to design a range of lesson plans with clear and achievable aims, using appropriate methods for learners with various needs. 
  5. Have the ability to manage and stimulate active participation among a class of learners. 
  6. Understand the main advantages and disadvantages of various language teaching approaches 
  7. Have the ability to evaluate their own effectiveness as teachers and to work cooperatively as members of a teaching team or group. 
  8. Understand the importance of continuing their professional development as ESOL teachers after training.

Course duration: 

The self-study course (distant course) will typically take between 6-8 weeks to complete. We go at your speed and allow up to 6 months for course completion for maximum flexibility. You will need to send a written request and reasons why you may want an extension. 

The classroom based course spans over 4 months (90 hours).  

 

Assessment: 

  1. Trainees are given clear guidance at the start of every course as to how their written and practical work is to be assessed. 
  2. All trainees will have a personal tutor who will provide you with full support. 
  3. There are assignments at the end of each module. You will complete these and send them to your course tutor. 
  4. Feedback is comprehensive and will include comments on your work, together with suggestions and recommendations. 
  5. We recommend the completed modules be sent one at a time so the trainee can benefit by tutors feedback.

The full Cert TESOL long-distance course is 3500LE (Egyptian Pound)
